Fibers of Renewal (2025)The Grass Canon

Beauty follows nature’s logic: it grows, bends, and changes. Perfection is replaced by variation; symmetry is no longer the goal. Surfaces may be rough, uneven, or aged, these are signs of life. Color shifts with time and light; no tone is fixed or final. Movement defines form. Stillness is only a temporary state. Materials must come from the environment and return to it. Adornment is impermanent, meant to fade, fray, and decompose. Beauty is measured by responsiveness, not preservation. This Canon sets beauty standards that mimic ecology, value growth, decay, and interdependence as the true markers of form.

Miss Canthus

How can the aesthetics of plant life and decay coexist with, or subvert, the visual language of the beauty queen?

Miss Canthus embodies the principles of the Grass Canon: growth, movement, and impermanence; the beauty of decay. Her form resembles the verticality and rhythm of elephant grass. She is temporary, celebrates impermanence and ecological connection. She resists static ideals of perfection, presenting the body as a landscape that grows, bends, and regenerates. She is a muse, and guide. A manifestation of a beauty canon rooted in nature, texture, and seasonal cycles.
